Italeri 1/72 B58 Hustler

This is the review of the B-58 Hustler in 1/72 from Italeri.

The B-58 Hustler was the first super-sonic jet bomber to enter service. It used a delta wing which was adequate for its high speed high altitude role, but it came with a price. It required also a high speed and high attack angle to land, and had a tricky stall. More than that, despite its mach 2 capability, it required full attention of the pilot at all time. There was no electronic stability control which made its flights demanding for the pilots. When the high altitude SAM missiles came into the game, it was made an attempt to shift it to high speed low level flight, but it was not good at it. For that, it remained in service for only a decade, but even now, it still remains as one of the fastest bombers of history.

This is a very nice model, even if there are many people complaining about its fit... Overall, its not the worst case I've ever seen...

The cockpit windows are the clearest and most transparent I've ever seen. Trully, the best part of the kit.

At least the front one... the ones on the back don't let see much of the interior, but that is the airplane itself fault...

The landing gear is complex, like the real one...

But despite some thin and small struts details missing, overall, its good. Even on the landing gear well detail.

The front one may seem too fragile, but it handles well.

Even if it may seem tricky to put in place... but that is design fault, it had to retract without hitting the central fuel tank, which I had not use.

It's payload has 3 options, I've choosen the 4 bombs one.

Engine detail is not bad.

Fitting of its pods, may require some work and adjustment, but not that hard.

With some slight sanding, can be seamless.

Overall, the hardest part of this model its the metal look paint. But that is because painting with metal looks is hard. Requires a good glossy primer and good paints, and a fully cleaned airbrush.

As a final remark, I do recommend this model, its an unique cold war icon. Also a good example in fast and delta airplanes.

Revell 1/144 Fokker 100 SwissAir

This is the review of the 1/144 Fokker 100 SwissAir from Revell.

The Fokker 100 was the last big airplane Fokker built before Bankruptcy. It was aimed at the 100 passengers in regional routes, and it had its place. However financial problems and a large number of concurrent aircraft dictated its destiny. Despite that, it is still in service and it is expected to be used as a base for a new re-engined aircraft to be released in 2019.

It is a model hard to find, not very common. For that reason, it doesnt become cheap. Despite that, the details are good, and it is a nice airplane.

Landing gear and landing gear wells are adequate, with enough amount of detail.

The engines look good, the decals do fit well, but the stripes are a little hard to keep in one piece... Despite that, no problems in there.

If you are collecting passenger airlines, this is a model not very common, even in real life, so it may look good, even if it can be confused with a DC-9...

If you do manage to get one for an affordable price, just get it. Above all, it is fun to build and it does look good. Not a hard build, actually, a nice build, despite being rare and not very recent.

Revell 1/144 Concorde British Airways

This is the review of the 1/144 Concorde from British Airways from Revell.

The Concorde was one of the greatest achievements in terms of passengers transportation. It seemed to be paving the way where every air transport would travel at the speed of sound, and all the main airplane manufacturers were doing their own design... In the end, the joint venture between French and British companies made one of the most elegant airplane ever, with a sleek design built for speed. Only the Tu-144 reached near it, but was cursed with a very underdimentioned main spar, and was retired early on. It still remains as the only supersonic jetliner to come into service.

This is an old model from Revell. So be ready for some small issues. the first, is to modify the front windows, as it is a great upgrade. The original one has a square as a front window... so, get ready for some slight scrach build... this is what it should look like.

The landing gear is not top notch, but it is quite nice, and the gear wells are well represented, we can say their not bad.

on the engines, well, you'll also need to mod a little... The original had variable intake vanes, which you'll have to scratch build with some plastic... but after doing it the difference is astonishing.

Overall, it is a nice model. Requires some work to look more like the original one, but its not something very demanding... It can be done with some small scratch building.

This is still with the old British Airways livelly, but it doesnt change its elegance... Overall, it is a nice Concorde. will look elegant on any shelf, even if you decide to build it out of the box. But bear in mind: the front cockpit window does require some modding...

Revell 1/144 Bombardier Cl-604 Cirrus

This is the review of the 1/144 Bombardier Cl-604 Cirrus from Revell

The Cl-600 series is a family of business jets designed by bombardier. It has a wider body than most of them, and it is an effective small jet, as much for business man as for routes which have very low movement.

Get ready, for this is really small... but despite that, it has very well detailed landing gear and landing gear wells.

And it is cute! Very cute! Althout it does look odd near all the other airlines...

Despite that, it is easy to build, has a lot of details and appealing things, with recessed panel lines. It is a funny build.

Whle comparing it with the BAe-146, it seems to be nearly the same size.

Even if the recessed panel lines are a bit deeper than they should, which does become odd in a model this small, it looks great in every angle. A model that can be purchased and be near any other. However, do not put it near an F-14 on the same scale... it will look really small... Appart from that, it is a nice model to build, both for experts and rookies.
