Revell 1/72 de Haviland DH.100 Vampire

This is the review of the de Havilland Vampire from Revell.

The Vampire was the first single engine British jet fighter. Although it was projected during WW2, it arrived too late to see combat. It was used sucessfully as a trainer, and there still are some of them flying. There still is doubt if it was really the first jet airplane to cross the Atlantic.

About the model kit, despite being a late seventies Heller mould, it is still nice. Raised panel lines, not that much detail, a "ton" of weight to prevent it from tail sitting...

But... If built properly, it can become good. This one was built long time ago, in early nineties. Landing gear wells detail is afordable, but not that much.

Cockpit has some ammount of detail, but not that much. For its size and age, I think its good, but there are better options now.

As it has raised panel lines, requires special techniques to keep them and remove the seams. Fitting is ok. Decals were tough to glue though... Had to improvise at the time...

It's an old model kit, not the worst ever, but nothing that impressive. It does look like a vampire, but don't know how accurate it is.

So, bottom line is, not a beginners model, it will require some work to make it perfect, wether you keep the raised panel lines or not. It can have some nostalgia for the persons who built it when it was fresh new, but can be disappointing if we compare it with some of the brand new models. Acquire with caution.
